On Democracy and Banning Extremism

In an interview on NTD, Mark Birbeck argues that whilst some government initiatives–such as increased CST funding–are welcome, most of what they are proposing will undermine democracy and free speech. Ultimately we will need more free speech, not less, if we want to stand with Israel.

On Democracy and Banning Extremism

Last week Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said in a speech outside Number 10, that the election of George Galloway as the new MP for Rochdale, was "beyond alarming". A few days before that, James Cleverly stated in an interview with The Times, that pro-Palestinian demonstrations should be limited and that protestors had made their point.

In an interview on NTD, Mark Birbeck argues that whilst some government initiatives–such as increased CST funding–are welcome, most of what they are proposing will undermine democracy and free speech; it's not for them to decide when there has been enough debate, and banning marches is the last thing we should do if we want to reinvigorate democracy.

Ultimately we will need more free speech, not less, if we want to stand with Israel.
